Varsity Camp

Basketball Camp 2007
The tradition continues…..

Lady Panthers send two teams, 16 players to Austin.

Thirty-two teams from around the state participated in the University of Texas High School team camp this year.  The Lady Panthers entered teams in both the Junior and Varsity Divisions.  During the two and half day camp, players were able to sharpen their basketball skills, bond with their teammates and experience the college environment

Last year’s Lady Panther Varsity team finished 4-6 at camp and this year’s groups of girls were determined to improve that record.  After five months of off-season practice and eight tournaments, they were ready for the challenge.

This year’s team competing in the Varsity Division was ONE of only TWO teams that went undefeated during the weekend camp. . Posting wins over teams representing; Montomery, Kirbyville, Mansfield, McKinney North, Bennett, Goldwaite, Rockwall Heath, White Oak and McKinney Boyd High Schools…….WAY TO GO GIRLS, GREAT BASKETBALL PLAYERS ARE MADE IN THE SUMMER!

Team members consisted of  Meghan Morrow (Sr), Lauren Ramsey (Sr), Taylor Daughterty (Sr), Rachael Walters (Jr), Cameron Hartson (So), Natalie Ruud (So), Lauren Daniell (So) and Sam Jackson (So).  Not pictured and unable to attend camp,  Ally Byrum……you were missed!

This years team competing in the Junior Varsity division was comprised mostly of incoming freshman and sophomores and was highly competitive, despite having never taken the floor together prior to this tournament. Recording 3 wins and 6 losses, the team demonstrated a desire to win and compete at the highest levels. 3 of their 6 losses came in overtime or within the last minutes of play.

In addition to outstanding court action, the team had the opportunity to come together off the court. When not playing Wii Tennis, the girls from both teams bonded together to outflank their coaches during "Lights Out" and demonstrated teamwork in doing so that was envied by many crafty camp veterans.

All-in-all, the team competing within the JV bracket represented the Lady Panthers with tremendous dignity and pride and had a great time along the way. This group of young women is looking forward to building a great basketball program and tradition at Midlothian and of course, heading back to camp again next year as “seasoned veterans”.
